FAMILY-run Ballan Local Butcher has taken home the Hip Pocket Workwear and Safety (Ballarat) Retail Business Award at this year’s Federation University Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards.

They were announced as the winner at last week’s gala dinner held at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre.

Shane Zammit, business manager, said it was wonderful to receive recognition for the team’s work and contributions to the community.

“It’s absolutely awesome,” he said. “It’s very humbling to be amongst so many great businesses and to be recognised for what we do with a passion.”

The Zammit family took over the business, which was previously known as Salvatore Regional Butcher, in 2017.

The Zammits have been members of the Ballan community for more than 25 years and have a focus on quality customer service, with the business’ Shazam lamb range coming from their family farms.

“We provide Ballan and district with quality, family farmed, locally grown meat, in particular our Shazam lamb,” said Mr Zammit.

“You can’t go past our lamb; family farmed, locally grown.

“There’s plenty of options for the large family or a small family.”

The organisation is also known for their sausages which have received several awards for their quality and flavour.

“We’re very well known for our sausages in excess of 30 different varieties and we’re always coming out with new varieties,” said Mr Zammit.

“We are very passionate about creating different sausages.”
