The Cranky Woman’s Comedy Club to raise laughs and funds for homelessness support

COMEDIANS Mandy Nolan and Jackie Loeb will join forces in Tweed Heads next month for a night of comedy raising funds for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

As part of Homelessness Week, Nolan and Loeb will bring The Cranky Woman’s Comedy Club to Seagulls Club on 6 August, with proceeds supporting Agape Outreach.

A mother of five and a comedian of 40 years, Nolan said the show would celebrate the experiences, frustrations and resilience of older women.

“Cranky women have so much to say. They’ve survived childbirth and motherhood and marriage. They can feed a family of five on $200. They know what it’s like to go without. And they know what its like to be overlooked. But beware – there comes a time when those cranky women speak up,” Nolan said.

Nolan, who is one half of touring comedy duo Women Like Us, has also worked as a political candidate, is an author of five books, and is a member of the Country Women’s Association.

She has built her comedy career around candid observations of everyday life, with Australian Stage declaring “Mandy can make a rock laugh”.

Loeb has been a fixture on the international stand-up comedy scene since 1992, earning recognition for her live performances and receiving the MO Award for Achievement of Excellence in Live Comedy.

Her one-woman show Jackie Loeb Sings The Worst Songs Ever Written sold out at the Sydney Comedy Festival and was nominated for Best Comedy Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, leading to performances across the United States.

Nolan said the pair’s forthcoming performance would support the work of Agape Outreach, which provides assistance to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

“We will raise the roof and money for Agape,” Nolan said.

The Cranky Woman’s Comedy Club will be held at Seagulls Club on 6 August from 7.30pm–10pm with tickets available through Humanitix.
