Dynamic duo mark bowls first

AN HISTORIC feat was achieved at Heathcote Bowling Club last Sunday when the grandfather and grandson team of Greg Speirs and Blake Barri won the club’s pairs championship.

After an even run across the opening five ends, Speirs and Barri then took charge to claim the title against Chris Morcom and Rod Bond.

Although the pennant season is complete, Heathcote Bowls Club hosts social bowls every Saturday and Wednesday, weather permitting, from 1pm.

New and learner bowlers are welcome to take part in matches on the synthetic greens at the Herriot

Street venue.

A group of 15 rolled up to the club on March 20 to play three games of pairs and triples. The field included five bowlers from

Tuesday Nighters.

Winners were Frank Dimauro (s) and Tess Ryan, two wins, 34 points and +11 shots.Runners-up were Eileen O’Brien (s), Daniel Fitton and John Hutson, two wins, 33 points and +7 shots. The jackpot was not won.

Nine bowlers played three games of pairs and triples on Saturday. Winners were Eileen O’Brien (s) and Judy McDonald, three wins, 41 points, +8 shots.Runners-up were Daniel Fitton (s) and John Huston, 1 win, 19 points, +2 shots.

Mixed social bowls this Saturday starts at 1pm. The Roy Tattersall Memorial Triples Tournament will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 10am.

The club’s annual general meeting is set down for May 19 at 2pm.

All positions are vacant and members are encouraged to nominate for the various committees and positions.
