ROLLED from top spot after consecutive defeats, Heathcote meets the ladder-leading Kangaroo Flat in Saturday’s Division Three match in Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields bowls.

Heathcote has home green advantage for the match which starts at 1.30pm.

After a slow start in last Saturday’s match on Castlemaine’s greens, Heathcote fought back but at the final bowl the Magpies led 82-68.

Highs for the Saints included the effort by the Bill Gardiner-skipped rink to draw level going into the last end after being down by seven shots after six ends.

A top contest went Castlemaine’s way, 18-17.

The rinks skipped by Adam Luxford, Maurice Lee and Chris Morcom were beaten by margins of two, seven and four shots.

In Division Six, Heathcote plays at Bendigo East this Saturday.

The Saints starred at home to win their latest hit-out with Marong by 28 shots.

Lorraine Speirs won by 10 shots and Brian Taylor by five.

The Grant Baker-led rink held an 18-shot buffer after 14 ends on the way to a 26-13 victory.

In midweek pennant, Heathcote heads to Golden Square for the Division Two match.

The Saints are on the rebound from a 47-60 loss at home to Strathfieldsaye in last Monday’s warm conditions.

Lorraine Speirs won seven of the first eight ends to lead by 17 shots after 15 ends and although Strathfieldsaye won the next four ends, Speirs marked a 22-13 victory.

Eileen O’Brien’s team was down by 10 after 13 ends.

The Saints won three of the last four ends, but went down 8-25.

Dot Cutajar levelled scores on the 19th end, but Strathfieldasye won the last two ends for a 22-17 result.

Tuesday Night Bowls drew 70 starters for night one.

Christmas raffle will be drawn at the Christmas break-up on Thursday, December 14. Donations are being taken for the two hampers.
