Saints take it right up to Demons

AN EXCITING contest between Heathcote and White Hills in last Monday’s resumption to Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields midweek pennant was decided on the last bowl of the day.

The Saints faced the ladder-leading Demons in the Division Two match in the White Hills den.

Down by 10 shots after eight ends, the Dot Cutajar-skipped rink struck back to win nine of the next 10 ends to claim a 24-17 victory.

Lorraine Speirs was beaten on the opening four ends as the Demons gained a 12-shot buffer.

The Saints won six of the next eight ends, but White Hills fought on for an 18-15 victory.

Eileen O’Brien led by seven shots after 18 ends.

The Demons fired up to win the last five ends to record a 24-18 win.

Premiership points went the way of White Hills in a 59-57 result.

In next Monday’s play Heathcote will play at Kangaroo Flat.

Saturday pennant resumes this Saturday in a round where bowlers take part in fund-raising for part of the Cancer network through Anti-Cancer Council, Breast Cancer Network, Ovarian Cancer, or Sun Smart.

Heathcote is on home turf for the division three match against South Bendigo.

In division six the Saints make their way to Golden Square.

Finals of Heathcote Bowls Club championships for men and women will be played this Sunday from 10am.

Tuesday Night social bowls starts at 7pm and pennant practice on Thursdays at 4pm will be followed by a meal.
