Enchanting Ella

Making her mark on the national dance stage

It’s all about spending time with her friends but as it turns out, 10 year old Ella Dyson is also very talented at dancing and it keeps her busy, spending almost as much time at MJ Dance Studio as she does at home.

The MacDonald Park School Year 5 student first stepped into a dance class as a four year old, following in the footsteps of her sisters and it has quickly become a huge part of your life.

By the time she was six she was not just dancing in classes but also became a soloist and while she still admits to nerves, she does love being on stage.

What she loves most, though is the friendships she has built.

“I just love dancing with my friends,” Ella said.

She has built her technique through ballet and loves working in the lyrical space and her dedication to her craft is already paying dividends.

She secured one of three places for South Australian dancers with the Australian Ballet interstate training program and will be making trips to Melbourne for that opportunity. Adding to her ballet resume, Ella (inset pictured with teacher Chrsitina Jenkin) recently received a ballet exam score in excess of 96 per cent, earning her the Silver Star honour and also has an intensive four day Australian Ballet session in April next year.

And when she is not shining as a ballerina, she is making her mark at prominent dance competitions, emerging from the Get The Beat national dance competition last month as the pre-junior 9 to 10 years national grand champion. That honour, which also saw her bring home a trophy that matched the young dancer’s height, will also see her head to the United States at the end of January next year, along with the other Get The Beat national champions and runners up. Of course, prior to the US trip, Ella will be part of the MJ contingent heading to Queensland for another prestigious dance competition – National Showcase.

Ella has always been part of the MJ Dance family and she is at the studio every day of the week, taking stretch classes, ballet sessions, solo lessons, pointe class, tap and acro and everything in between.
