FRESHWATER Creek Steiner School put hempcrete to the test the weekend before last and hosted a hands-on building workshop.

Conducted by Southern Hemp’s David Brian, participants used the bio-composite material to create a bird hide at the school thanks to a Junior Landcare Grant.

Mr Brian said hemp homes have the potential to “revolutionise” Australia’s housing industry due to its energy saving properties, design flexibility and negative carbon footprint.

“We expect many industries in Australia to start looking at adapting their products to incorporate hemp as they start to see the full benefits of producing more sustainable products,” he said.

The workshop was held on Saturday June 15 at the school’s campus on McIntyres Road, Freshwater Creek.
