Anna’s Good Friday bracelet drive
A YOUNG Torquay resident has taken her love for making bracelets to the streets of her hometown and raised $429 for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Four-year-old Anna Evans and her mother Katie last weekend set up a bracelet stall at the Torquay North skatepark and set out with the initial goal of raising $100 to raise funds and awareness of the upcoming Good Friday Appeal.
The young Torquay local was delighted to blow her expectations out of the park, spending five hours teaching different children how to make the bracelets to result in a whopping $429 from just gold coin donations.
Anna’s mother Katie said she was incredibly proud of her daughter’s efforts to support and brighten up the lives of sick children and their families.
“It’s actually phenomenal… I don’t think Anna realises how amazing it is what she is doing,” her mother Katie Evans said.
“Anna loves making bracelets and we decided to fundraise for people who really needed it… I chatted to her about various charities.
“Because Anna has been to the Royal Children’s Hospital herself, she wanted to raise money for them.
“We had probably about 50 kids come to make bracelets on the day… there is even still people at Anna’s kinder who want to buy them.
“I thought maybe we’d go there for an hour or two but people just kept coming, it was fantastic.”
Good Friday Appeal area manager Peter McMahon said he found it incredibly heartwarming to see young locals like Anna embracing the cause.
“She did a fantastic job, she set out to raise $100 for the sick children and has already got to $429 which is crazy,” Mr McMahon said.
“It was pretty cute to see a four year sitting at the table and teaching other girls how to make bracelets… it was actually quite touching.
“I was absolutely flabbergasted; it was probably the highlight of my day to see her in action…. I assume she’ll be back at the park this weekend doing it once again.”
