Applications open for Geelong leadership development program

APPLICATIONS remain open for the second intake of the Committee for Geelong’s Activate Leadership Program.

Designed for recently promoted leaders and those new to formal leadership development, the eight-week program explores leadership from personal, business and community perspectives, with a strong focus on Geelong.

“We are seeing so much change around us and businesses of all varieties are requiring different leadership skills to navigate this complexity,” Michael Johnston, who has since resigned as Committee for Geelong chief executive, said.

Participants will explore their leadership aspirations, style and strengths while learning how to lead teams, drive change and make a difference in the community.

 

The program also provides direct access to local leaders from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, including an in-depth one-on-one conversation with one of those leaders later in the course.

Delivered through a mix of in-person workshops, online webinars and a small-group project between September and November, the program allows participants to learn, reflect and apply new ideas in real time while building lasting professional and community connections.

“Our Activate program has been designed to fit around participants’ busy workloads, while giving them relevant leadership skills and connecting them into local business and community leaders who are already making an impact,” Johnston said.

“We receive amazingly positive feedback from our participants, who make connections through the program across a real mix of industry.”

Johnston said developing community leadership was a key part of the Committee for Geelong’s role in the region.

The program is aimed at people recently appointed to formal leadership positions, experienced supervisors, managers and team leaders who have not undertaken formal leadership training, and high-performing staff demonstrating leadership potential despite not holding a formal leadership role.
