LOCAL musicians will be plugging in at the Torquay Bowls Club (TBC) for an open mic night tonight (Thursday, July 12), and there are still a couple of slots open.

The club in association with Surfusion are presenting the Winter Open Mic Sessions, which will run on the third Thursday of every month.

Four-piece Surf Coast band West of Johanna will headline the night and will play in the closing slot of the three-hour event.

TBC twilight subcommittee deputy co-ordinator and event organiser Ray Casemore said he would welcome some last-minute additions to tonight’s lineup.

“I’ve probably got room for a couple of spots tonight, and I’ve got another one happening in August.

“The idea is to get people out of their houses and come along and listen to some local live music.

“It’s trying to get people back to normality, really.”

He said he hoped to have as many bands and artists at each event as possible, so there was “more music than changeover time”, and he was open to the idea of any kind of act, from solo artists to five-piece bands (or more).

“It’s an open mic night, so they can play whatever – as long as it’s not offensive.”

Any artists or bands interested in playing tonight should phone Mr Casemore immediately on 0411 966 626.

The Winter Open Mic Sessions will be held at the Torquay Bowls Club, 47 The Esplanade, Torquay tonight (Thursday, July 14) from 8-11pm. Entry is $5.

The event will return to Torquay Bowls Club on August 18 with Inked Factor as the house band.
