CLOUDS of colour wafted through the sky above Torquay Front Beach on Sunday when hundreds of local families turned out for the Festival of Colours.

Organised by Hare Krishna Valley and sponsored by the Surf Coast Shire Council, the event is a cultural celebration which honours the “oneness” of human spirit.

Its origins can be traced back to India, with the festival a symbol of the blooming of colours that arrive in autumn and spring.

Attendees spent the glorious sunny day throwing coloured powder over their friends and family while listening to live music.

Surf Coast Shire mayor Rose Hodge was among those to take part, with Andy Meddick MP also showing his face in support.

Cr Hodge said the festival was one of her “all time favourite events”.

“It’s a truly unique event that has a really fun and festive vibe.”
