Summer dog restrictions in place

WITH summer in full swing, dog walking zones are now in place across the Surf Coast Shire.

In certain time share zones across the shire, dogs can now only be walked on designated paths with a leash between 9am-7pm.

While dogs are allowed off-leash in these areas outside of the specified times, they must still be under reasonable control.

Councillor Clive Goldsworthy said in busy periods such as summer, the regulations help ensure everyone gets the most out of the area.

“Time share zones aim to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time in our beautiful environs.

“With summer months bringing many visitors and enticing more locals to be out and about, there is increased potential for conflicts involving dogs, particularly on our beaches at peak times.”

The shire’s ranger service team will also be out ensuring people are aware of the regulations.

Time share zones are in place at many beaches across the Surf Coast.

The shire recently announced they were looking into the possibility of a dog park in Torquay.

Part of the reasoning behind this is to offer alternative places for people to exercise their dogs without the same restrictions.

The time share zones will remain in place throughout summer and again be in place during Easter.
