Aireys Inlet Market goes virtual

April 23, 2020 BY

ABOVE: People can now purchase products from their favourite stalls online.

THE Aireys Inlet Market has moved online, with the stalls previously available for browsing in and around the town hall now available for browsing on the new website.

Instigated by the social distancing requirements caused by the coronavirus, the market’s new virtual setting looks to maintain the philosophy of selling goods that are homegrown, handmade, recycled, vintage and local.

Market organiser Libby Stapleton said the market provided a convenient alternative for many of the sellers.

“Many of our stallholders are small home-based makers and growers, without an online shop or digital presence, so we thought a virtual market would be a great way to connect them with the local community while we’re all in isolation.

“We wanted to do something to help our creatives and stallholders make it through the winter. We’re encouraging everyone to have a browse through our virtual market and look for local businesses that they can help support through this.”

The virtual market is selling a range food, arts, crafts, gourmet take-home meals, wine, homewares, fashion and gifts. Many of these products were previously available from stalls locals would be used to seeing on the first Sunday of each month.

Ms Stapleton said the virtual market was quickly growing.

“We’re uploading stallholder listings every day, so keep checking our virtual market for updates and new items on offer.”

The market also features on the Surf Coast Shire council’s buysurfcoast.com.au website under the “Stronger Together” section.
