NATURAL Real Estate has announced its partnership with the Surf Coast FC as a Gold sponsor, a collaboration that brings together the local community and the passion for soccer.

Agent Chris Henson, a former professional soccer player from the UK, will be at the forefront of this partnership.

“We only get involved in things that we’re genuinely passionate about and that will make a difference to our community,” Mr Henson said.

“The club is growing and so are we, and we’re both looking for ways to evolve in this exciting partnership.”

Mr Henson, who grew up in the UK city of Nottingham, started playing soccer at the age of four, influenced by his grandad’s involvement with the Derby County Football Club.

By 11, he had dreams of playing professionally, idolising Liverpool legend Ian Rush.

His dedication paid off, and from the age of 16 to 20, Mr Henson played professionally for Derby County.

However, after enduring six operations on his right knee and two ACL tears, his soccer career came to an end.

Reflecting on his experience, Mr Henson said he had “no regrets and to this day, still uses the life lessons he learned whilst playing in such an amazing team sport”.

He now finds joy in playing soccer with his daughters, Isla (7) and Liv (10), who both play for Surf Coast FC.

Mr Henson believes soccer is an excellent sport for children.

“It’s a sport that’s played across the world. It’s a global language,” he said.

“You’re on the beach on holiday and no one speaks the same language, but everyone can join in for a game of soccer, or ‘footy’ as we call it.”

He is particularly excited about the growing interest in girls’ and women’s soccer, noting the impact of the Matildas on his daughter Liv.

“I’m excited about the buzz around girls and female soccer. Especially having daughters! When I was growing up it was unheard of for girls to play,” he said.

Mr Henson said Natural Real Estate and Surf FC looked forward to a “fruitful partnership,” united by their “shared commitment to community and the beautiful game”.
