Nippers registrations open for exciting summer season

September 5, 2023 BY

Torquay SLSC has fun-filled summer of Nipper sessions planned including, the Lorne Training Camp, the Summer Holiday Program, carnivals and the club's popular Nippers Disco.

A LOCAL surf lifesaving club has opened up junior program registrations ahead of the upcoming Nipper season.

Torquay Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is now accepting registrations to its Nippers program for 2023/24 with the club hopeful for another successful season.

“We love seeing the beach and clubhouse full of all the kids, enjoying themselves, socialising and getting some much-needed exercise,” Torquay SLSC president Julian Sweeney said.

“Giving the kids experiences they will remember for their entire lives, all linked to our wonderful Torquay Surf Beach, an appreciation for the ocean and lifesaving, is something we’re all tremendously proud of here at Torquay SLSC.”

Torquay is coming off a resoundingly successful 2022/23 season highlighted by a State Championships win in March earlier this year.

While the club is gearing up for another positive year, the club is placing fun at the centre of its objectives this coming season.

The club stated it will place an emphasis on getting junior lifesavers active around the water, developing surf skills, and encouraging a sense of community spirit.

The Nippers program is catered at children aged from five to 12 years old, learning and practicing skills, and developing as team members in a well-run and inclusive program.

Director of junior development Matt Carmichael said the club is expecting large numbers of Nippers this season with more families making their way to the Surf Coast this summer.

“This means we get to see heaps more smiles and have a heap more fun as we pass along important water safety and skills training,” Mr Carmichael said.

“It also means we need to plan well in advance to ensure we can adequately cater for all the demand.

“So those interested should start registering early, so that we ensure we can fit everybody in.”

Starfish Nippers enrolments are also open for families who have children with special needs.

At Torquay SLSC, Starfish Nippers offers a specially-designed program to ensure nobody misses out on the fun that can be had at the beach.

Anyone looking to get involved in any Torquay SLSC Nippers programs are encouraged to contact the club at www.torquayslsc.com.au quickly so administrators can process memberships.
