AFTER three days of competition, the 2020 Junior Victorian Lifesaving Championships wrapped up on Monday with Ocean Grove SLSC finishing victorious overall with 411 points.

More than 1,400 junior athletes from 30 different clubs around the state were in Warrnambool this long weekend for the three-day carnival, which culminated with finals heating up between competing clubs.

Mentone LSC placed second overall with 267 points and Mornington LSC placed third with 196 points.

The competition saw the emergence of some future champions, including Jemma Holt from Mordialloc LSC, who took home the under 13 Water Female Champion medal, under 13 Girls Board Race and the under 13 Ironwoman among many others.

Life Saving Victoria aquatic sports manager Kirsty Clark said day three of the event began at 8am with the traditional “march past” event and was followed by the award ceremony.

“Congratulations to the winners as well as all our talented competitors, who have shown great strength and determination this weekend and have all the makings of future lifesavers.

“The march past was a major highlight today, as it is at every junior carnival, where teams march in their club colours with a traditional reel and line.

“Mordialloc LSC did a fantastic job taking out the gold medal for the march past and was followed closely by Point Leo SLSC in second.”
