Torquay Lions collecting tools for Mallacoota
HAVING reached into their pockets to help with the bushfire appeal, the Torquay Lions are now reaching into their sheds.
Members are asking people across the Surf Coast Shire to donate tools to help people of Mallacoota repair the devastation caused by the recent bushfires.
Torquay Lions president John Bell said the club would be accepting both new and used tools.
“Not only is this an opportunity for people in Torquay to clean out quality used tools in their garages and sheds, but it also enables others to purchase for donation tools suitable for rebuilding or repairing houses in Mallacoota.
“All the tools gathered in Torquay will be delivered direct to Mallacoota Lions for distribution, as the local Lions know well where the need is greatest.”
The Torquay Lions have already been very active in responding to the recent bushfires.
Not only did they donate $1,000 to Lions International Australian Bushfire Appeal, but their annual Bowls Day in January also raised $8,400 for the Bellbrae and Torquay fire brigades.
Mr Bell said they will receive any item that will be practical in Mallacoota’s rebuilding efforts.
“We are looking for barrows, rakes, shovels, ladders, axes, drills, hammers, saws, fasteners, nails, screws, power tools and anything else homeowners and others require to rebuild.”
The tools will be given directly to the Mallacoota Lions Club who will distribute them to where the need is greatest.
The Lions will be at the Lions Shed in Spring Creek Reserve on March 1 between 1-3pm to pick up people’s donations.
