The results of the recent HIA Western Victoria Regional Housing Awards held in
Torquay have highlighted the craftmanship of local and regional builders.

Kimber Constructions has won the prestigious 2019 HIA Western Victoria Regional
Home of the Year award for an outstanding custom built two-storey house in the
company’s home town of Ballarat.

Torquay-based Kre8 Living had an outstanding night, winning Display Home of the Year
as well as the kitchen design award for their Seascape 29 display home in Torquay.

The judges praised the home for its new and innovative design that “uses appropriate
materials to develop the ‘coastal look’.

In addition to scoring very highly for the tradesmanship and attention to detail on display, this home is based on a thoughtful design that covers all bases.

A combination of Velux skylights and solar-powered blinds, for example, allow for an abundance of natural light that can also be controlled at the touch of a button.

More features that stood out in the judges’ eyes include the stylish and impressive use of timber and lighting, and the kitchen design – which also won a stand-alone kitchen design award and delivers “practical innovation and also very effective use of space.”
Coastyle Building Solutions won best Custom Built Home for their Indented Head build where the owners wanted to maximise the beach views of their unusually-shaped block, without impacting neighbours or the environment.
The heroes of the design are the custom-made 2400 by 4500 and 1250 by 4500 double-glazed and tinted windows, placed at the front of the house to facilitate the desired beach views.

The judges were very impressed by this compact home, giving it near-perfect marks in multiple categories including tradesmanship, attention to detail, design effectiveness and innovation.
PJ Scott Homes won an award for their Esplanade 260 display at Torquay.
Located in the Quay 2 estate in Torquay, careful planning went into ensuring this home catered to the needs of costal living: including lifestyle, the environment and weather conditions.

Judges were impressed with the home’s excellent finish and attention to detail and gave the project high scores for tradesmanship.

They also praised the home’s storage, room flow and inclusion of environmental features that led to a 6.6 star energy rating.
Hotondo Homes Ocean Grove won an award for their Tarkine 238 display in Ocean Grove.
Beautifully proportioned and welcoming, the Tarkine 238 was designed with families in mind.

The heart of the home is its open-plan kitchen, which features plenty of storage and juxtaposes stainless steel with green tiling.

A walk-through pantry leads to the laundry, while the kitchen also opens directly onto the large alfresco area.

Excellent attention to construction detail and finish, married with visual appeal inside and out, were among the home’s winning factors in the eyes of the judges.

Metricon Homes won two display home category awards for the Lawson 22Mk2 in Smythes Creek and the Delta 25S in Lucas, Ballarat.
