Backyard Blicavs Best Lawn for 2019 competition winner Sam with Mark Blicavs, Luke Dahlhaus and Armstrong local “Kobe” Gryan Miers.

Yes, we have a winner.

Geelong Cats superstars Mark Blicavs, Luke Dahlhaus and our own Armstrong local ‘Kobe’ Gryan Miers have been judging some top quality Armstrong Sir Walter Buffalo grass.

It’s all been part of the Armstrong Backyard Blicavs Best Lawn for 2019 competition and rather warmly contested challenge at that.

There were some tough factors to weigh up. The 4 Cs of fine lawn judging, no less. Cut, colour, coverage and cricket.

Fortunately, no windows were broken in the judging of the final category, which turned out to be the mist heavily weighted aspect of the backyard blitz.

So, yes, we have a winner. Congratulations, kudos and bragging rights to Sam and Brad. You’ve been crowned the winners of this coveted and highly regarded contest with a score of nine out of 10.

Humans in Geelong

Armstrong’s hangar will be hosting the launch of Humans in Geelong coffee table book of interviews next month.

The hangar is available free to community groups looking for an event venue for meetings, exhibitions, installations and other purposes.

Owner Villawood Properties is not using the hangar would love to see it being utilised by the community.

“We’re always conscious of community groups and their needs, especially smaller, fledging groups in new areas like Armstrong,” says Villawood executive director Rory Costelloe.

The Humans in Geelong book has been produced thanks to a State Government Pick My Project grant. It will go free to schools, libraries and community groups with the aim of injecting hope and positivity into the region.

Community groups can also get a free copy of book from the Humans in Geelong Expo on Sunday 6 October at Deakin Waterfront.
