Elite athletes inspire next generation on the Surf Coast
YOUNG local athletes had the privilege of learning from some of the best in their sport at a special coaching session last weekend.
Surf Coast Little Athletics brought local Olympian Mia Gross and national representatives Amali Butcher, Cassidy Bradshaw and Jacinta Burns to share their expertise and enthusiasm for the sport.
With the support of Total Sports Podiatry, the clinic focused on helping athletes develop essential techniques and skills across various track and field events.
Co-organiser Hamish Nelson of Total Sports Podiatry said it was great to help bring great coaching to the region.
“Total Sports Podiatry is committed to fostering active lifestyles by supporting local sporting clubs.
“With over 30 years in athletics, I’m passionate about helping young athletes unlock their potential.
“It’s rewarding to see Surf Coast’s athletes benefit from the guidance of these incredible athletes, and we’re proud to be part of their journey.”
Gross said it was amazing to come down and support such an eager group.
“Sharing key exercises that helped me run faster with these enthusiastic young athletes was a highlight.
“Learning major skills early is so vital for setting up future success, and correct running technique really widens your knowledge and skills for advanced performance.”
Butcher, a star hurdler, said she enjoyed the excitement the children showed for her specialty discipline.
“It makes me so happy to see them loving something I’m passionate about.
“Learning a strong fundamental skill base early is crucial – it enables young athletes to achieve more complex movements and reach higher results.”
Surf Coast Little Athletics Club and Total Sports Podiatry intend to continue to run events of this nature to aid athlete development.
