Surf Coast Calisthenics’ sub-junior group revels in their state achievement the weekend before last.

A GROUP of aspiring calisthenics champions took out their division at the Calisthenics Victoria State Championships the weekend before last in a stunning display of movement and unison.

Surf Coast Calisthenics’ sub-junior group, which consists of 14 local girls aged between 7 and 10, won gold in five of their six items to become state champions in their respective division.

The team scored the top spot in march, clubs, free arm, rods and song and dance. They also placed third in the aesthetics contest. Under guidance from coach Bianca Cockerill, the girls worked hard throughout the year to perfect the high-energy dance routines.

Bianca said Surf Coast Calisthenics has been in operation since 2005 and is a community focussed, not-for-profit club.

“Our goal is to provide young people, currently girls and young women, with lifelong learning such as the importance of teamwork, as well as nurture self-confidence and friendships in a fun and inclusive environment,” she said.

On Saturday August 31, the club’s inters team placed third overall in a tight competition at the Northern District Calisthenics Competition.
