LOCAL surfers will have the chance to hold competitions at Melbourne’s new surf park through a new partnership with Surfing Victoria.

The partnership, revealed earlier this week, will see Surfing Victoria provide all Victorian coastal boardriders clubs with the chance to hold a “club round” at the park for no cost.

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said he was pleased with the park’s ambition to support surfers at all levels.

“The inclusive nature of what URBNSURF is aiming to achieve with the surf park – to open the sport up to all ages and abilities – complements Surfing Victoria’s purpose of enriching Victorian communities through surfing.”

Local surfers Xavier Huxtable, Ellie Harrison and Cahill Bell-Warren were among the first to ride the artificial waves at URBANSURF this week.

The Tullamarine park covers two hectares of land and is designed to offer both left and right breaks.
