Creative hub gets State Government support
A CREATIVE arts and cultural hub in Bendigo established by the Dja Dja Wurrung Corporation, known as Dumawul, is one of eleven projects to receive a State Government grant through its Creative Ventures Program.
Dumawul will receive $180,000 over two years for artistic, cultural and economic development opportunities for First Nations creatives living on Dja Dja Wurrung country, also known as Djandak.
The hub currently runs a one-day cultural competency program where it teaches participants about the heritage of Djandak and its people.
It also runs an Ulumbarra CBD walking tour and a Kooyoora cultural tour.
State Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the Victorian Government was proud to back local creativity.
“Congratulations to the team at Dumawul,” said Ms Edwards. “It’s a testament to their hard work and vision and the important contribution they make to our community and to Victoria’s creative industries.”
Other projects backed by the program include a social enterprise in the western Melbourne suburb of Footscray, digital training in Warrnambool, and the FLOW Festival which is put on for and by the deaf community.
