Giant artwork lights up park

THE latest art installation to go on show in Rosalind Park, Kaleidoscope, is now open and adding new dimension to Easter festivities.

A mirror maze with a difference, the giant artwork was designed and created by Keith Courtney.

The creative said he came up with the idea for the work at the start of the pandemic and hopes people will take their time walking through the space, appreciating angles they might not usually see.

“I wanted to create something that was joyful,” he said.

“Everyone likes their reflection, everyone checks themselves out because you get to see a whole lot of different angles of yourself that ordinarily you don’t.”

Kaleidoscope has toured across Australia and Courtney said compared to setting up the work in cities, it was easier in a regional town and he appreciated the help of City of Greater Bendigo staff.

“The local crew that I’ve had here in Bendigo have been absolutely fantastic, they’ve been really great to work with,” he said. “Really supportive.”

Courtney said Rosalind Park is the most beautiful location Kaleidoscope has been in so far.

“Everything looks better in nature,” he said. “It’s popping.”

Nationwide, more than 120,000 people have been through the installation and about 20,000 more are expected while it’s on display in Bendigo.
