Cooking up a storm for cancer cause

Member for Barker Tony Pasin has hosted his ninth Big Aussie BBQ, once again raising significant funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), with more $1000 added to the coffers this year.

This brings the cumulative amount raised to well over $9000, a testament to the ongoing generosity and community spirit of the people of Mount Gambier.

“Since 2016, we’ve been holding the Big Aussie BBQ each September to support our local Prostate Cancer Support Group and the PCFA in raising awareness and funds,” Mr Pasin said.

The Federal MP was first inspired to start this event after attending the PCFA’s Big Aussie Barbie at Parliament House, Canberra, in 2015.

“It was at that BBQ that I first became acutely aware of how prevalent prostate cancer is – it’s the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men,” he said. “About 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and over 3,000 lives are lost each year to this disease.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the hard work of the local Prostate Cancer Support Group, we’ve been able to raise thousands of dollars for the PCFA. But more importantly, the BBQs have sparked hundreds of conversations about early detection, which could ultimately save lives.”

Mr. Pasin also expressed his gratitude to local businesses, Bakers Delight Commercial Street, Shelton’s Butchers, Coates Hire, and Key2Sale, who have been instrumental in making the BBQ possible.

For the second year in a row, Key2Sale contributed a generous $500 donation to the cause.
