MOUNT Gambier High School and Berri Regional Secondary College (formerly Glossop High School) are proud to mark the 80th anniversary of their Annual Sporting and Cultural Exchange, recognised as Australia’s longest-running public school exchange, uniting generations since 1947.

This year, the milestone is hosted by Mount Gambier, and the local community is warmly invited to join in celebrations at the Wulanda Convention & Recreation Centre on Monday, July 1.

The highlight of the festivities, the 80th Exchange Celebration Event, will bring together past and present principals, staff, students, and families from both schools to honour decades of achievement, sporting spirit, and lifelong friendships.

The event will showcase rich memories and memorabilia, inspiring reflections from old scholars and sporting heroes, and a dynamic array of videos, stories and displays that capture the evolution of this cherished partnership.

As part of the festivities, guests will have access to the highly anticipated futsal and basketball matches, offering a chance to witness the skills, camaraderie, and spirited rivalry that have defined the exchange for eight decades.

MGHS Deputy Principal Kerran Wingard said the exchange programme with Berri Regional Secondary College was more than an annual event.

“It is a legacy of regional unity, friendship, and opportunity for every student involve,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming our school communities and local residents to celebrate not only our shared history, but the future of this wonderful tradition.”

Community members, alumni, and supporters are encouraged to secure their tickets to this all-ages, alcohol-free event and be part of an unforgettable chapter in local education.

Anyone connected to the exchange is also invited to contribute stories, photos, or memorabilia for display, helping capture the rich history of connection between both schools.
