SATURDAY’S stableford round at the Mount Gambier Golf Club was sponsored by MGA Insurance with a large field of 122 players.

All three grades had close results with only a couple of points separating the players at the top of each leaderboard.

The best score of the day was shot by past club captain Russell Lewis (9) with 40 points.

Solid golf on the front nine netted 18 points which included four bogies, four pars and a birdie on the first.

Lewis then used his extra handicap shots on the back to good effect, by adding a further 22 points after a 2 over the card 38 off the stick. This comprised of a birdie, six pars, a bogey and an unfortunate double bogey on the seventeenth hole.

A countback was needed to determine the minor place getters in A Grade (-9.0 – 10.0) with three players finishing tied on 38 points.

Clint Mitchell (6) took second spot with splits of 16 on the front and 22 on the back.

Rob McIntyre (10) was next with splits of 18 and 20 points and Jason Shanks (2) finished fourth with even splits of 19 points on both nines.

C Grader (17.0 – 45.0) Charlie Winterfield (22) shared the honour of best score of the day with Lewis, also finishing with 40 points.

Winterfield scored equal nines of 20 points on each.

Starting well with consecutive pars on his first two holes before having another par, four bogies and two double bogies.

The back nine was a little more consistent with eight bogies and a single double bogey on the par 4 fourteenth.

Shane Foote (18) was runner up with 39 points after splits of 17 and 22 points.

B Grade (11.0 – 16.0) saw Peter Miller (16) taking the win with 39 points.

Miller amassed most of his points early, with 21 points on the front, highlighted by a birdie on the par 4 fifth hole for four points.

He then finished his round with 18 points on the back nine.

Like A Grade a countback was required to split three players who all signed for 37 points. Bryan Pink (11) took out second spot with splits of 18 points on the front and 19 on the back.

Next was Jack Jennings (13) and then Peter Waters (15).

A score of 34 points or better on a countback was needed to earn one of the additional 40 balls, and there were 18 birdies scored on the par 3s to win a ball.

The Pro Shot winner on the eighth hole was Craig Torney (16) and Andrew Stark (6) took out the sixteenth.NOVEMBER 20 RESULTS
