Community hire program reaping rewards

GLENELG Shire Council’s new SportsBox lockers are off to a fantastic start, with community members eagerly making the most of the free sports equipment now available at the Portland Foreshore and Island Park in Casterton.

Throughout December, the lockers recorded around 200 equipment hires and more than 70 hours of equipment use across both locations, a clear sign that locals and visitors are actively utilising the easy access to sporting equipment.

The strong early use reflects the community’s enthusiasm for simple, accessible recreation opportunities. The SportsBox lockers have added fresh energy to our play spaces, offering a fun and effortless way for people of all ages to stay active while spending time at two of Glenelg Shire’s most popular outdoor locations.

The lockers are simple to use, making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to enjoy spontaneous, healthy activities across the Shire.

Council encourages everyone to give the SportsBox lockers a try next time they visit the Portland Foreshore or Island Park in Casterton.
