Gordon set to help in the paint
THE Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers have secured another signature for the 2026 NBL1 season with American forward Lucas Gordon joining the roster.
He joins the Pioneers following an outstanding collegiate career with the University of Redlands (NCAA Division III), where, in his senior season, he averaged 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while shooting an efficient 56 per cent from the field.
Gordon also contributed with 36 steals and 31 blocks, underlining his impact on both ends of the floor.
His performances were recognised at a national level, earning D3hoops.com Region 10 Player of the Year honours, along with First Team All-Region selection, capping off a standout 2025–26 campaign.
Standing at 206cm (6’9”), Gordon brings size, versatility, and efficiency to the Pioneers frontcourt, with his ability to score inside, rebound at a high level, and defend multiple positions expected to translate strongly to the NBL1 South competition.
Men’s head coach Pete Godfrey believes Gordon’s all-around game will add an important dimension to the group.
“We are elated to have Lucas joining us,” he said. “Our first four games have been an uphill battle with such an undersized group. Lucas will provide much needed front court support and presence, and flexibility defensively too. Lucas is by all reports a mobile high IQ big man and has a decorated D3 All American pedigree to draw on.”
Gordon said he was excited to the opportunity to begin his professionalcareer in Mount Gambier.
“I decided to join the Pioneers after I was given an opportunity I
couldn’t pass up on,” he said. “I am so excited to give everything for this team and win some games! So grateful and blessed for this amazing opportunity!”
Gordon played almost 16 minutes on Friday night, scopring eight points and pulling in seven rebounds.
