Martland starts 2026 in style

THE women at the Blue Lake Golf Club had to wait a week to start their 2026 season after the heat policy came into effect recently due to the extreme weather.

Trophy competition doesn’t start till the end of January with the first of nine monthly medals.

Meanwhile a stableford competition was played on January 14 with 27 eager to hit the fairways and quite a few excellent scores were recorded. T

he score of the day of 43 points came from Rosemary Martland.

Martland was the Division One winner playing off a 14 handicap converting her outward 20 points from three three-pointers, one a birdie on the par three 2nd, followed by her inward 23 points from five three-pointers, seven pars and no wipes on a very impressive card.

Runner up Jaynee Oberer also scored well posting 38 points off her 29 handicap after splits of 20/18 that Included three three pointers on the outward nine and three three pointers on the inward nine and only one wipe recorded.

Third on the podium was Helen Stratford after facing a countback with Annette Ford both scoring 33 points.

Stratford played off a 21 handicap and had splits of 15/18 that Included five pars and three wipes.

Division Two winner was Janine Dunn scoring a fine 40 points playing off a 38 handicap.

There were three three pointers in the outward 18 points followed by four three pointers and a four point par on the 11th in her inward 22 points with no wipes on her scorecard.

Runner up was Dianne Allen also signing for a great score of 39 points off her 43 handicap.

Her outward 21 points included four three pointers followed by three three pointers in her inward 18 points and no wipes.

Taking third place voucher was Carol Melhuish also with a great score of 38 points off her 38 handicap that Included five three-pointers and a four point par on the 9th hole and no wipes recorded in her splits of 21/17.

Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the par three 2nd hole winners were Rosemary Martland with a birdie two and Trudy Herbert (3.20).

The pro-shot winner on the 5th was Beryl Mahoney (7.86).

Twenty-seven women teed off in cool windy conditions but it was one of the group of women in their second year of competition golf that shot the lights out recording an awesome nett 57.

Sophie Johnson played 14 strokes under her handicap of 44. There were two pars in her splits of 49/52, on the 2nd and 13th holes.

The handicapper will be taking a few strokes off that 44 handicap before her next outing.

Second placing was Jayne Galpin also playing one stroke under her 19 handicap shooting 89 off the stick for nett 70.

Pars on the 1st, 3rd and 6th holes in her outward 44 strokes were followed by pars on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes in her inward 45 strokes.

Third was Renae McQuade, after a countback with Galpin, signing for 107/37/70 also playing one under the scratch 71 rating.

Included in the ball rundown were Annette Ford nett 71 c/b Lee Anderson 71, Kate Brown 73 c/b Helen Stratford 73 c/b Rosemary Martland 73, Geraldine Scott 74.

Nearest to the pin was Scott (2.18), putts Martland and long drive Galpin.
