Mount Gambier ladies back on the fairways

Division 2 runner up Lyn Hudson & winner Gail Watson, with Division 1 winner Mardi Goodes & runner up Penne Saffin.

THE weather was excellent and resulted in really good scoring for 15 ladies to register 36 points or more last Wednesday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Forty-one ladies contested the 1st Round of the Summer Cup, kindly sponsored by Pauline Patterson and Carol Smith.

The Cup is played over three stableford rounds and the competitor with the most points will be declared the winner of this prestigious event.

Starting off the event very well was Mardi Goodes (Handicap 23) in Division 1 amassing 41 points to take out first place.

Mardi’s excellent back nine with 25 points added to the 16 points on the front nine amounting to 41 points.

Two birdies on the 3rd and 11th Holes together with six three pointers, two pick-ups accounted for her great score.

Vice captain Penne Saffin (Handicap 23) took out second placing in Division 1 with 16/23 =39 points.

Penne had a par on the 11th hole = four points and accumulated 12 points on the last four holes.

The best score of the day was in Division 2 with Gail Watson (Handicap 40) scoring a great 43 points – 7 under her handicap.

Gail’s split for the game was a very consistent 21/22=43 points.

Gail recorded eight three pointers and added another four points on the 18th parring this hole.

Long standing Member Lyn Hudson (Handicap 30) came second in Division 2 , only one point behind the winner.

Lyn had an excellent front nine with 25 points and added another seven three pointers, plus two more three pointers on the back nine.

The handicapper will be looking very closely at these players and reductions of handicap should occur before they play next.

Ten balls were handed out to players with great scores and went to Deb Fowler (39 points) down to Jennifer Van Rijthoven 36 points.

The speciality prizes went to Helen Gregory (3 balls) for the Pro Shot on the 8th Par 3 Hole.

Long Drives on the 9th Hole were won by A Grade – Helen Heaver, B Grade – Penne Saffin and C Grade- Sue Ryan.JANUARY 31 RESULTS

Twelve pairs of women competed in a Multiple Stableford Event at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last Saturday.

In lovely weather Helen Gregory and Bev Pedlar had a great round and tallied up 83 points on their scorecard.

Their split for the two nines was 35/48 points = 83.

Assisting their win was 12 points gained on the 11th Par 5 Hole where both ladies parred the hole.

Helen also carded 42 points herself.

In second place was the pairing of Di Norman and Penne Saffin with 75 points.

Balls were handed out to Josie Ashby and Jill Johnson, Maxine McGregor and Carol Smith, Heather Barry and Leanne Hunt and Lyn Hudson and Jess Parsons.

NTP winners were on the 8th, Par 3 Hole – Janina Morrison and on the Par 3, 16th Hole – Di O’Donnell.
