THE Castec Rural Pioneers have added further size and depth to their men’s roster, announcing the signing of New Zealand forward/centre Thabo Manyere on a one-year contract for the 2026 NBL1 South season.

Manyere is a New Zealand-born big man who stands at 6’7 (200cm) and brings athleticism and frontcourt presence to the Pioneers lineup.

He previously competed in the United States college system with McCook Community College (Nebraska), where he spent multiple seasons in the JUCO ranks.

Across his time at McCook Community College, Manyere gained valuable collegiate experience, including appearances during the 2018–19 and 2023–24 seasons.

He was also part of New Zealand’s U17 National Team pathway, highlighting his early development within the national program.

After stepping away from basketball for a period, Manyere now returns to the game and will begin his professional career in Australia, marking his first appearance in the NBL1.

Manyere said he was looking forward to returning to the court and contributing to the team in Mount Gambier.

“I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to represent the club and be part of a program with such a strong culture and history,” he said. “What excites me most is the chance to compete at a high level again, make a strong comeback, connect with the community, and play my role in contributing to a successful season.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone down in Mount Gambier and giving everything I have for the Pioneers this year. I can’t wait to get started and share the journey with everyone.”
