Perfect scores dominate Supershoot

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its annual 2 Day Supershoot earlier this month with conditions enabling shooters to obtain some perfect scores.

As in previous years many dedicated trap shooters travelled to the Mount Gambier Club to be warmly welcomed and find the grounds picturesque and equipment to be in excellent condition as the committee and members had spent considerable time preparing for a successful 2 Day Supershoot.

Friday was practice in the afternoon with a lot of the shooters taking advantage of this time to fine tune their guns, ammunition and mindset .

Early morning practice on the Saturday resulted with shooters arriving early, practising and organising which squad they would like to participate in and nominating for the two days.

After all this the competition started on time at 10am.

Competitors, 107 in all, travelled from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland , Northern Territory and all over South Australia to contest the five events held across two days vying for a share of the $21,000 worth of prizes on offer.

Each event prizes were for the grades AA, A, B, C and each grade first to fifth placegetter prizes.

High Gun prizes over the 2 days events were awarded to Overall, Grades, Veteran, Ladies and Junior.

The Pick Avenue Deli & Bakery 25 Tgt Pointscore Championship was the first event with shooters eagerly waiting their turn to claim a prize due to their accuracy skills ,

The Mount Gambier Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) 25Tgt Single Barrel Championship was next up and again the shooters were in fine form with high scores attained once more shoot offs had to be performed in the fine and sunny conditions.AA Grade1st Chris Jorgensen 26/26, 2nd Dougal Simson 25/26, 3rd Gavin Height 24/25, 4th Andrew Hoare 31/33, 5th Lisa Hawker 30/33. The South West Freight 25tgt Double Barrel Championship was the last event for day one of competition and in these fine conditions, the shooters were showing their fine marksmanship with 25 competitors shooting perfect scores, shoot offs continued into the early evening. B Grade 1st Daniel McCrone 39/39, 2nd Andrew Jenkins 38/39, 3rd Jayden Newcombe 35/36, 4th Grace Hesse 28/29, 5th Garry Allison 26/27. C Grade1st Darren Murrell 26/29, 2nd Mick Rudd 25/29, 3rd Robert Marcato 24/28, 4th Harry Simson 24/27, 5th Gary Burgess 23/27.

The George Yoey Club Team Competition that was held over the three events on Saturday with the team entry conditions being one competitor from grades AA, A, B, C plus 1 from Vet, Lady or Junior from the same club .

The Mount Gambier team of AA Warren Lindner, A Greg Kessegian, B Stuart Bowd , C Peter Klieve, and Gavin Height veteran won the George Yoey Team $500 prize money, sponsored by Guy Yoannidis .

A Junior Highgun prize for the day was donated by Scott Fleming with Grace Hesse 113/125 winning the cartridges as prizes

Sunday saw some winds thrown in but high scores again were shot and shoot offs in all events were necessary.

After some practice for the shooters the competition started up at 9.30am as all were ready to fire off .

The Zema Estate Winery 25Tgt Single Barrel Championship was up first with shooters eagerly squadding up to try and win the prized personally selected Zema Estate fine wines on offer.

This event had an overall prize in memory of the late Matt Zema, consisting of personally selected premium bottles of Zema Estate wine, and after a shootoff of the five shooters who had perfect scores the overall winner was Fiona Dobbins with a perfect 30/30.AA Grade1st Gary Coppola 29/30, 2nd Gavin Height 31/33, 3rd Sam Rundell 30/33, 4th Dougal Simson 33/36, 5th Max Medhurst 32/36.A Grade1st Chris Dalrymple 28/30, 2nd Gary Joass 27/30, 3rd Greg Kessegian 33/38, 4th John Winters 29/34 , 5th Hecta Crawford 29/34. B Grade 1st Garry Allison 28/30, 2nd Paul West 26/30, 3rd Mark Fabris 36/42, 4th Martin Collumb 35/42, 5th Ayden Nolte 27/33. The Trident Tyre Centre 30Tgt Medley of 18m Championship was fiercely contested, even in the slightly windy conditions, and again the palcews were decided by shoot offs.AA Grade1st Don Pratt 50/50, 2nd Rhys Hirth 73/75, 3rd Rob Hunter 72/75, 4th Mark Newcombe 71/75, 5th Luke Ralph 63/75. The two day shoot was enjoyed by all and 70 successful shooters won prizes in the $21,000 prize pool and are again looking forward to returning next year to try out their marksmanship abilities.
