Pioneers recruit a true champion

A huge coup for the OneFortyOne Pioneers with the signing of talented guard Gracie Champion.

The 24-year-old has been playing in the NBL1 North for the South West Metro Pirates, taking out the club’s Players’ Player of the Year this season after an outstanding on court performance that saw her average 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Champion’s consistency and leadership have been the hallmarks of her career, which began in 2016 with the Brisbane Capitals.

Over the years, she’s developed into one of the North Conference’s most reliable perimeter players — combining scoring punch with playmaking ability and defensive presence.

Head coach Matt Sutton, who will again lead the OneFortyOne Pioneers in 2026, said Champion’s addition will bring valuable experience and competitiveness to the roster.

“Delighted to have Gracie join the program, she’s a high quality shooter with a great knack for getting to the free throw line, and is a fantastic person,” Sutton said.

Champion shared her excitement about making the move to Mount Gambier and competing in the NBL1 South.

“Very excited to be joining the Pioneer family! Can’t wait for the season to start and to represent this great association!”

The OneFortyOne Pioneers will tip off their 2026 NBL1 South campaign soon, with further announcements on roster signings and pre-season activities to be released soon.
