Plenty of championships decided at Port MacDonnell

Men’s Pairs Champions: Marcus Pietersma & Ian Moulden

EARLIER this month, the Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its Pairs and Triples Championships.

The Ladies Championship Pairs had seven entries and in the opening round Nel Lucas and Carol Janeway were defeated by Judy Grosvenor and Jan Dowdell; Heather Richards and Carol Schmidt defeated Elaine Pruis and Lyn Vanderley and Del Parsons and Julie Beaman defeated Sharon Perryman and Skye Wilson.

In the second round Heather Richards team won against Judy Grosvenor’s pairing and Del Parsons team won against Jennie Tilley and Sherie Richards.

That set up the final between Del Parsons and Julie Beaman and the Heather Richards and Carol Schmidt combination.

Del picked up a three on the first end then Heather got a two as the scoring continued back and forth until the fifth end when Del and Julie won the next four ends only picking up singles for the score to be 9 – 3.

With Heather’s team only getting one shot then Del and Julie winning the next three end to be leading 11-4, the result looked set and while in the second to last end Heather’s side won a two then Del and Julie secured one shot on the last end to win 14-6.

The Ladies Triples Championships had five nominations and in the first round Nel Lucas, Sherie Richards and Carol Janeway defeated Del Parsons, Carol Schmidt and Julie Beaman.

In the second round Heather Richards, Judy Grosvenor and Jan Dowdell won against the Nel Lucas team and Sharon Perryman, Lyn Vanderley and Skye Wilson defeated Jennie Tilley, Marilyn Sutton and Karen Petersen.

That set up the final between the Heather Richards team and the Sharon Perryman team.

Richards side won the first three ends before Perryman was on the scorecard but by the tenth end the score was 8 – 6.

By the 16th end , things were still tight, 12-11 with the Richards team eventually taking the title in the tense encounter, 16-14, seeing Heather Richards, Judy Grosvenor and Jan Dowdell crowned Ladies Triples Champions.

The Men’s Pairs Chmapionship with six nominations and in the first round Tim Wrightson and Keith Dowdell won against Bruce Bavin and Chris Negline and Marcus Pietersma and Ian Moulden defeated Lindsay Moyle and Bill McGregor.

In the second round, the Tim Wrightson team won against Adam Wilson and Eddy Smith and Marcus Pietersma won against Dave Beaman and Terry Seiler.

That saw Tim Wrightson and Keith Dowdell face off against Marcus Pietersma and Ian Moulden for the title.

By the ninth end the scores were level 8 -8 and as both sides won ends until the second to last end when Marcus and Ian held managesd to secure a three shot lead 14 -11.

In an exciting finish with Tim and Keith won two shots on the last end but just fell short, 14-13.

In the Men’s Triple Championships, Tim Wrightson, Wayne and Keith Dowdell won against Terry Seiler, Chris Negline and Des Horrigan, 15-13.

Adam Wilson, Dave Beaman and Eddy Smith won against Danny Gaut, Bill McGregor and Kevin Norman.

That meant the Wilson trio would take on the Wrightson combination to battle it out for the triples title.

In an exciting game with scores going both ways uptil the ninth end, it saw the Wrightson team up 11-8.

It wasn’t until the 14th end that the scores were locked up before the Wrightson trio secured a three to see the score sitting at 16-14, then all square on the second to last end and in a thrilling finish the Wilson team held a one shot and managed to hold on to win 17-16.
