A TOUCHING message of hope and strength was widespread at the Surf Coast Relay for Life at the weekend, bringing in more than $54,000 for the Cancer Council.

Hosted at Polwarth Oval in Torquay North, the Candlelight Ceremony – a time to remember those lost to cancer and to show support for those living with cancer – was an event highlight that paid homage to the individuals affected by the illness.

Surf Coast Relay for Life chair Bob Tyler said he was ecstatic with the success of the event.

“It was fantastic and far greater than we expected.

“The big message to everyone in Torquay and the Surf Coast is thank you for the support and please be ready for next year’s Surf Coast Relay for Life.

“The Candlelight Ceremony was spectacular. We tried a different approach this year and it got the message across very well. We’ve already got the committee enthusiastic for next year’s event.”
