Saints roll into grand final

The Saints will take on Marong in this Saturday’s grand final from 1.30pm.
Heathcote earned another shot at Marong as it scored a 14-93 to 4-85 win against Woodbury in last Saturday’s preliminary final at Golden Square.
The Bill Gardiner-skipped rink won the first four ends against Len Handley and led by 13 shots after 10 ends.
The Saints scored six shots on the 18th end to claim a 31-15 victory.
Adam Luxford made an even start against Maurice McMahon as scores were level on the 10th end.
Heathcote won five shots on the 19th end as Woodbury won a great match, 25-23.
Chris Morcom’s rink won the first five ends against Wes McCumber.
From there it was Woodbury which took control in a 26-15 result.
Maurice Lee’s rink overcame a slow start to level scores on the 15th end.
Lee won four of the last five ends to claim a 24-19 victory.
It’s two-one in favour of Marong across this season’s matches against Heathcote.
The Saints won the round four match at home by 21 shots, but since then Marong has scored win against Heathcote by three and six shots.
When they met in the second semi-final it was Marong which scored a six-shot win.
Closest result was a 20-19 win by Brian Girvan against Maurice Lee.
A field of 12 bowlers played three games of pairs in the March 5 social bowls.
Winners were Chris Morcom (s) and Joe McCarthy on one win, two draws, 32 points, +5 shots.
Runners-up were Greg Speirs (s) and Karen Royal on two wins, 29 points, +1 shot.
